Steelers’ Tomlin says Brown is ‘foolish’ for posting video

Shanahan likely 49ers choice left

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had strong words for Antonio Brown, calling him “foolish,” “selfish” and “inconsiderate” and threatened swift punishment for his star receiver after a postgame video from the locker room in Kansas City was broadcast on Facebook.

In the video, Tomlin used profanities to refer to the New England Patriots. During the video, Tomlin was heard complaining that the New England Patriots had an extra day and a half to prepare for the AFC championship because the Steelers’ game in Kansas City was moved from afternoon to night because of weather issues.

“We spotted those (expletive) a day and a half,” Tomlin said in the locker room.

“They played (Saturday). Our game was moved to tonight. We gonna touch down at 4 o’clock in the (expletive) morning. So be it. We’ll be ready for that (expletive).”

Brown could be fined for the video under the NFL’s social media policy that prohibits posts on places such as Facebook Live.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick, on the other hand, wasn’t concerned about the news Brown made via social media.

“As you know I’m not on Snap Face and all that, so I don’t really get those,” Belichick said during a radio interview on Tuesday. “I’m really just worried about getting our team ready to go. I’m not really too worried about what they put on Instant Chat, or whatever it is.”

Tomlin said he regrets using the language and “sincerely” apologized “as a parent and member of the community” for the content of the video. He said Brown will be punished “swiftly” by the Steelers, in addition to any discipline or fine he receives from the National Football League, though he did not reveal what that punishment from the team might be.

49ERS: The search for a new San Francisco coach has narrowed in on Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan after the only other candidate remaining pulled out of consideration.

Seattle offensive line coach Tom Cable’s agent, Doug Hendickson, tweeted Tuesday that Cable is “re-affirming” his commitment to the Seahawks and thanked the 49ers for their interest. That follows New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels pulling out on Monday and leaves Shanahan as the only remaining candidate.

The Niners can’t hire Shanahan until the Falcons’ season ends.

SEAHAWKS: Those hoping Seattle would spend big to bring in a completely new offensive line next season were given a dose of reality by Pete Carroll this week. It’s not going to happen. “We’re going to work really hard this offseason to make sure that we make that spot really competitive again. We’re not going to rest on anything or set back, we think we’ve got it now. We’ll continue to work,” Carroll said. “There’s opportunities, of course, in the draft and free agency and all of that, that we’re open to. We’ll never turn away from any of those chances. But if nothing happened these guys are coming back, and they’re going to get after it.”

JETS: Brian Winters is sticking with the Jets after they took a chance on him four years ago.

The right guard signed a four-year contract extension Monday night worth $29 million, including $15 million guaranteed.

BRONCOS: Coach Vance Joseph on Tuesday promoted secondary coach Joe Woods to defensive coordinator, replacing Wade Phillips, who left for the Rams.

Woods, 46, was in charge of the Broncos’ stellar secondary that led the league in pass defense each of the last two seasons behind All-Pro cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr., hard-hitting safeties T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart and nickel back Bradley Roby.

“If we had to lose Wade, at least we get to keep Joe,” Harris said. COWBOYS: Linebacker Sean Lee made his second straight Pro Bowl as an injury replacement after the team’s leading tackler was one of the biggest snubs on the original list.
