CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Anthony Baca, of Albuquerqu­e, caught and released a 29-inch rainbow trout Jan. 13 at Tingley Beach. He was fishing the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond and using a lime green and red Pistol Pete.

Trish Valdez, of Albuquerqu­e, netted a 26-inch brown trout Jan. 2 on the San Juan River. She was fishing the upper flats and using an egg pattern.

Daniel Silva, 14, of Taos caught a 22½-inch brown trout Jan. 14 on the Rio Grande. He was fishing near the John Dunn Bridge and using a green streamer.

AROUND THE STATE

SANDIA LAKES: Fishing at Lakes 1 and 2 has been good. Anglers have had the most success using salmon eggs, various lures, and various PowerBaits. We will be hosting our annual trout tag tournament beginning Feb. 1.

ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at both SUNRISE and TURTLE lakes is very good. A recent full stocking of rainbow trout has taken place in both lakes. Best baits are salmon peach, worm, white and garlic PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms. Few channel cats are being caught. No bass at this writing. Carlos Trujillo, Isleta Lakes & RV Park

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was good using wax worms, San Juan worms, PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair to good using Pistol Petes, small streamers and olive and green bunny leeches. We had no other reports.

Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E, BELEN, CORRALES and PERALTA drains was good using wax worms, San Juan worms, salmon eggs, worms and small streamers for trout.

Stream flow on the SAN JUAN RIVER from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 353 cfs. Fishing through the quality waters was good using red annelids, streamers, woolly buggers, flashback pheasant tail nymphs, red larva, bunny leeches, egg patterns and princess nymphs. Fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs, night crawlers, San Juan worms, wooly buggers and small spoons.

Streamflow on the ANIMAS RIVER near Aztec on Monday morning was 396 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using egg patterns, streamers, small jigs and salmon eggs for trout.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 44 cfs. Early in the week, fishing on the Jemez was good using wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

FENTON LAKE is closed to fishing and all other activities due to thin ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 575-829-3630.

Monday morning water flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 101 cfs and 125 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing below El Vado was slow to fair using woolly buggers, streamers, worms and salmon eggs for a mix of brown and rainbow trout. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair to good using worms, streamers, micro mays, San Juan worms and copper John Barrs for trout.

BLUEWATER LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to thin ice conditions. For updates, contact the state park office at 505-876-2391.

Fishing at CONCHAS LAKE was slow to fair using jigging spoons for white bass.

As of Friday, ice thickness at EAGLE NEST LAKE was about 14½ inches. Fishing was fair to good using meal worms, night crawlers, salmon eggs and ice jigs for rainbow trout, kokanee and perch. For updates on ice conditions, call the state park office at 575-377-1594.

LAKE ALICE and LAKE MALOYA are closed to ice fishing due to thinning ice conditions. For updates on ice conditions, call the state park office at 505-445-5607.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 584 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using streamers and weighted woolly buggers for rainbow trout.

At BEAR CANYON LAKE, fishing was very good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at BILL EVANS LAKE was good using salmon eggs, worms, PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait and Pistol Petes for trout.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair using spoons and jigs for white bass. Fishing for largemouth bass was slow, but a few were caught by anglers using jigs.

Fishing at ESCONDIDA LAKE was good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, wax worms, salmon eggs and garlic cheese for trout.

At PERCH LAKE, fishing was good using salmon eggs, worms and homemade dough bait for trout.

Fishing at BOTTOMLESS LAKES was fair to good using Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.

At GLENWOOD POIND, fishing was good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at LAKE ROBERTS was good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
