Kathleen "Kathy"

Ann Grooters passed away on January 17, 2017 after several years of heart and vascular disease.

Kathy was born in Goodland, Kansas on May 18,

1953 and later grew up in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1971. During her senior year, she spent 6 weeks in Europe as part of her foreign studies.

She was married to Richard Wayne Grooters on March 25, 1972. This was the beginning of a long career as homemaker while working full time as an accounting manager for several companies over the years. During this time, she also graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Business Administration and near completion of a Masters Degree.

Kathy was already a champion of "multi-tasking" when on September 6, 1972, she gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Shannon Michelle. Oh, what a wonderful mother and wife she was for the next 44 years. Motherhood came easily for her and she was a mentor to other friends or young mothers of the day. She quickly and easily made friends with anyone…some referred to her as "Chatty Katty." Kind, generous, friendly and loving were just some of the wonderful characteristics of Kathy.

She was a great designer and decorator of the many houses she and her husband bought, built or "flipped" over the years. Once their house was chosen as "House of the Week" in a Kansas City paper. In the last 20 years, she created beautiful quilts as a hobby. She was also an avid reader and a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Many football Sundays were spent with her daughter and their family in nearby Corrales, NM. She loved attending her grandkid’s soccer games and though due to health issues, exhausting, she refused to stop attending their games. Another characteristic…sometimes stubborn!!

Kathy is survived by her mother, Marjorie Gervalia; husband Richard; daughter Shannon; siblings: David Tubbs, Pat Kilcoyne, Mary Lowery-Gonzalves and Jayne Melstrom; son-in-law, Martin Biddle and four beautiful grandkids: Rylee, Lauryn, Andrew and Madelyn Biddle.

Viewing to be held from 5 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Celebration of Life and funeral services to be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 23, 2017, also at Daniels Family Funeral Services.
