Crosby scores 28th goal as Penguins overwhelm Bruins

DETROIT — Henrik Lundqvist had little time to react to Henrik Zetterberg’s shot from pointblank range in the third period.

The puck hit the New York goalie in the helmet and bounced away.

“Those shots hurt in practice,” Lundqvist said. “But when you make a save like that in a scoreless game, it’s a great feeling.”

That was one of the few good scoring chances for either team Sunday, and when J.T. Miller finally scored in overtime, Lundqvist and the New York Rangers prevailed 1-0 over the Detroit Red Wings. Lundqvist made 21 saves for his second shutout of the season and 61st of his career.

Lundqvist has allowed only two goals over his past two games after letting in 20 in the previous four.

“The defense was really structured in front of me, and I was able to take advantage of that,” he said. “In these last two games, I’ve tried to keep the puck in front of me and stay patient. That’s what I had gotten away from.”

The Rangers managed only 19 shots in the game, which ended on Miller’s goal at 1:56 of overtime. Mats Zuccarello and Miller swooped in alone on Detroit goalie Jared Coreau, then Zuccarello made a simple pass to Miller, who lifted the puck over Coreau for his 16th goal of the season.

“I always liked the 3 on 3. It’s a lot more exciting, I think,” Coreau said. “That’s the nature of it. At one end, a couple bounces here and there, goes off the glass, they get a breakaway.”

PENGUINS 5, BRUINS 1: In Pittsburgh, Conor Sheary scored two goals, Sidney Crosby added his league-leading 28th and the Penguins won their fourth straight game.

The game was scoreless — and Pittsburgh had an 11-3 advantage in shots — when an issue with the ice forced the teams to halt play with 6:26 remaining in the first period.

Maintenance crews initially came out during a stoppage for repairs on the ice along the boards near the Penguins’ bench. The crew completed work and left the ice, only to return to do additional repairs. Players then left the ice and returned to their respective dressing rooms as the first intermission started early.

BLUE JACKETS 7, SENATORS 6: In Ottawa, Ontario, Cam Atkinson’s second goal of the game at 1:09 of overtime lifted Columbus.

Atkinson had a breakaway after a shot by Senators captain Erik Karlsson missed the Columbus net and went around the boards out to Atkinson, who was at center-ice.

The Blue Jackets trailed 5-3 after two periods before Lukas Sedlak and Matt Calvert scored 31 seconds apart to tie it less than 2½ minutes into the third. Atklnson then gave Columbus a 6-5 lead with 9:10 remaining, before Kyle Turries tied it for Ottawa on the power play less than 2 minutes later.

BLACKHAWKS 4, CANUCKS 2: In Chicago, Jonathan Toews scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:18 remaining and the Blackhawks earned their third straight victory.

Toews, who also had three assists, connected from the left circle after Richard Panik’s shot from right wing went wide and caromed off the back boards. Toews fired before Canucks goalie Ryan Miller could move across the crease.

FLYERS 3, ISLANDERS 2 (OT): In New York, Claude Giroux scored at 3:20 of overtime as the Flyers rallied to end the Islanders’ three-game winning streak.

Giroux’s 11th goal of the season came on pass from defenseman Shayne Gostibehere from behind the net, giving the Flyers a much-needed win after trailing 2-0. Philadelphia 2as 3-9-3 in its previous 15 since a 10-game winning streak.

PREDATORS 4, WILD 2: In St. Paul, Minn., Filip Forsberg scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal in the third, and Nashville rallied from two goals down to beat Minnesota.

Forsberg took a pretty feed from Ryan Ellis and one-timed it from the left circle past Darcy Kuemper with 6:36 left to put Nashville up 3-2.
