Madeleine Burlbaw, 94, of Bryan, passed away on Monday, November 7,

2016, in Bryan, TX. A memorial service and burial will be held in Albuquerqu­e, NM, at a later date to celebrate her life. Cremation services were in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.

Madeleine was born to her parents, Joseph and Anna Clara Coutu Picard, in Coventry, Rhode Island. After completing high school, Madeleine served our country in the Women’s Army Corps (1945-1946). She received the World War II Victory Medal during her service. She married Ernest Charles Burlbaw on December 26, 1946, and they shared 25 years of marriage until his death in 1972. They built a house in Park Ridge, IL and, later, moved to Albuquerqu­e, NM. They built another house in Corrales, NM, and moved into that house in 1960 with their six children. In 1989, Madeleine moved to Chapel Hill, NC, and then, in 1995, settled in College Station, TX, for the last 21 years of her life. In her later years, one of her great joys was sewing. She made over 4,000 turbans and gowns for cancer patients which she donated to the Greater Federated Women’s Club of Utah. Left to celebrate her memories are her children, Lynn M. Burlbaw (Bryan, TX), Edward J. Burlbaw (Las Cruces, NM), Ellen M. Key (Plano, TX), Frederick G. Burlbaw (Sachse, TX) and Norma J. Coffelt (Boise, ID). She is also survived by eight grandchild­ren and eight great- grandchild­ren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ernest C. Burlbaw and a son, Charles Ernest Burlbaw.

In lieu of flowers her family asks that memorial donations be given to the Humane Society or a charity of your choice in Memory of Madeleine Burlbaw.
