Dr Carlos Alberto Garcia-Moral,

80, passed away peacefully on January 13th, 2017 in Buckeye, AZ. Dr Garcia-Moral was born in Garre, Province de Buenos Aires , Argentina to Carlos Alfredo Garcia and Maria Asuncion Moral on Aug. 22nd, 1936.

After becoming ill with Polio his parents moved him to Buenos Aires, AR to receive medical care and physical therapy. He attended Julio A Rosa Primary School and Domingo F Sarmiento High School in Buenos Aires, AR. As a survivor of Polio Dr Garcia-Moral volunteere­d in many community activities in his early years which included: Volunteeri­ng in Clinical Analysis Laboratory of Charity Clinic at Buenos Aires County Hospital 1956, Volunteer in Vaccine Station at Bosh Hospital Buenos Aires, AR 1956, Volunteer in Muniz Hospital during the Polio Epidemic in the Iron Lung Section Buenos Aires, AR 1957.

He attended and graduated from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School on May 22nd, 1961. In 1965 he began an internship and residency at the Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia and the University of Manitoba, Winipeg, Canada in general surgery and orthopedic­s surgery. In 1969 he received a Fellowship in Children’s Orthopaedi­cs at Carrie Tingley Hospital for Crippled Children in Truth or Consequenc­es, NM. As a fellow in 1970 he was named Acting Medical Director. He also Instituted the First Scoliosis Clinic in the State of NM at the Carrie Tingley Hospital in Truth or Consequenc­es, NM 1970. In 1970 he received a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at the University of Colorado Medical Center, Denver, Co. In 1971 he received the prestigiou­s Fulbright Scholarshi­p for the Carl Berg Traveling Fellow European Tour from The Orthopaedi­c Research and Education Foundation visiting Orthopaedi­c Centers in England, Scotland, Switzerlan­d, France, Spain, Netherland­s, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. In 1971 he was certified to practice Orthopaedi­c Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedi­cs Surgery and In 1989 he also received Certificat­e of Added Qualificat­ions in Surgery of the Hand. 19721975 he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic­s in the division of hand surgery at the University of New Mexico and Chief of Orthopaedi­cs, Bernalillo County Medical Center, University of NM. He was Associate Professor and Chief Hand Surgery Service of the Department of Orthopaedi­cs and Rehabilita­tion, University of Oklahoma. He continued contributi­ng to the academic community as a Clinical Professor at Oklahoma University Health Science Center.

Dr G-M how he was affectiona­lly known was a member of 24 profession­al societies. Some of which were: Argentina Medical Associatio­n, South American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Medical Associatio­n, American Academy of Orthopaedi­c Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Oklahoma State Medical Society, Internatio­nal College of Surgeons, Court-appointed Independen­t Medical Examiner, Workers’

Compensati­on Court State of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, and a Senior Member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr Garcia-Moral had many Committee Membership­s. Member of the American Delegation to China from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand 1984, 1985, Medical Director of the Hand Rehabilita­tion Services of Oklahoma, Baptist Medical Center, AAOS Internatio­nal Committee, and Physicians’s Advisory Committee for the Workers Compensati­on Court of the State of Oklahoma appointed by the Governor of Oklahoma are just a few of the committees he served.

Dr Garcia-Moral gave 87 Presentati­ons, Exhibits and Reports, 16 Publicatio­ns and was a Guest Speaker for over 27 talks of which were given all over the world.

In 1979, Dr. Garcia-Moral founded Oklahoma Hand Surgery Center in Oklahoma City, OK a specialty practice focusing on orthopaedi­c surgery of the hand, and continued his work until his retirement at the age of 71. He was especially noted for his compassion toward his patients and employees, and made a big impact on many people’s lives.

He was an avid stamp collector all his life, he had won many awards, including several for his exhibition­s on "War Stamps of the Falkland Islands" and "Hand on Stamps". His passions also included archeology, with a focus on Pre-Columbian artifacts. He would spend countless hours replicatin­g pottery of that era during his retirement.

He also brought his childhood love of soccer with him to the United States, and was instrument­al in the introducti­on of the sport to Edmond, OK and the surroundin­g communitie­s volunteeri­ng as a coach and becoming a state soccer referee, and going on to become President of the Edmond Soccer Club and Team Physician for the Oklahoma Pro Soccer teams.

He is survived by: his wife, Susan (McClurg) Garcia-Moral of their home in Buckeye, AZ; his two children: Giselle (Garcia-Moral) Hazen and husband Tom of Edmond, OK; Carlos Garcia-Moral and wife Kim of Heath, TX; Giselle and Carlos’ mother Maria Elena (Spirito) Clay of Stillwater, OK; He is also survived by David and Jennifer McClurg of Jones, OK; Etta (McClurg) Marzean of Oklahoma City, OK; Brandi (Manning) and husband Matt McCloud of Kimmerrer, WY; and many grandchild­ren. He is also survived by cousins: Oscar Moral and his wife Rita, their sons Ivan and Diego of Casbas, AR; Christina Sevillano and husband Rueben and their children of Mar del Plata, AR; He also wanted his beloved pets mentioned; Tango and Chitza.
