Down 15, Baylor rallies, tops Ole Miss

Tar Heels, Seminoles upset in ACC action

OXFORD, Miss. — Manu Lecomte scored 17 points, Johnathan Motley and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. each added 16 and No. 5 Baylor rallied to beat Mississipp­i 78-75 on Saturday in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge.

Baylor (20-1) rallied from a 15-point deficit in the first half to win its fifth straight game. The Bears trailed 50-40 early in the second half, but pushed ahead to take their first lead at 56-54 with 10:25 left after Motley made a pair of free throws.

It was a close game from that point forward. Lecomte hit a decisive 3-pointer with 23 seconds left that made it 78-72 and sent many of the Ole Miss fans to the exits.

Ole Miss (12-9) led 33-18 lead with 6:33 remaining in the first half. Sebastian Saiz and freshman Breein Tyree both scored 20 points, and Eldorado and University of New Mexico alumnus Cullen Neal scored 13 points for the Rebels.

(3) GONZAGA 96, PEPPERDINE 49: In Malibu, Calif., Przemek Karnowski scored 16 points and Silas Melson had 15, helping the Bulldogs (22-0, 10-0 West Coast Conference) extend the nation’s longest win streak to 22. New Mexico State is alone in second with 18 straight.

The Bulldogs shot 58.6 percent and held the Waves to 30.2 percent shooting. Jeremy Major led Pepperdine (6-16, 2-8) with 13 points.

SYRACUSE 82, (6) FLORIDA STATE 72: In Syracuse, N.Y., Andrew White scored 24 points, John Gillon had 21 points and matched his career high with 11 assists as Syracuse (13-9, 5-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) gained its first victory over a ranked team. Dwayne Bacon and Jonathan Isaac each had 19 points for Florida State (18-4, 6-3).

MIAMI 77, (9) NORTH CAROLINA 62: In Coral Gables, Fla., freshman Bruce Brown scored a career-high 30 points, and Miami (14-6, 4-4 ACC) snapped North Carolina’s seven-game win streak. Miami also had a 41-36 edge in rebounding against the Tar Heels (19-4, 7-2), who lead the nation in that category. Justin Jackson led North Carolina with 21 points.

COLORADO 74, (10) OREGON 65: In Boulder, Colo., Derrick White scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half, helping Colorado (12-10, 2-7 Pac-12) end the Ducks’ 17-game winning streak. Payton Pritchard’s 19 points led Oregon (19-3, 8-1).

GEORGETOWN 85, (11) BUTLER 81: In Indianapol­is, L.J. Peak scored 22 points and Jessie Govan beat the shot clock with a key 3-pointer with 1:03 left, helping Georgetown (12-10, 3-6 Big East) stop the Bulldogs’ 14-game home winning streak. Kelan Martin scored 22 points for Butler (18-4, 7-3).

GEORGIA TECH 62, (14) NOTRE DAME 60: In Atlanta, Josh Okogie made a fast-break layup as time expired, Tadric Jackson had a career-high 25 points and Georgia Tech earned another surprising victory over a ranked opponent.

The inexperien­ced Yellow Jackets (13-8, 5-4 ACC) already had two wins over top-10 opponents before Saturday.

Notre Dame’s Matt Farrell went up for a short jumper but missed off the rim with 7 seconds remaining. Jackson grabbed the rebound, tossed the ball to a streaking Okogie, and McCamish Pavilion erupted in cheers.

V.J. Beachem scored 23 points for the Irish (17-5, 6-3).

(15) WISCONSIN 61, RUTGERS 54: In New York, Ehan Happ scored seven of his career-high 32 points in overtime, helping Wisconsin (18-3, 7-1 Big Ten) win at Madison Square Garden. Corey Sanders had 15 points for the Scarlet Knights (12-10, 1-8).

(16) CREIGHTON 83, DEPAUL 66: In Omaha, Neb., Khyri Thomas scored 18 points and Marcus Foster had 15, leading host Creighton (19-3, 6-3 Big East). Billy Garrett Jr. scored 18 points for the Blue Demons (8-13, 1-7).

(17) DUKE 85, WAKE FOREST 83: In Winston-Salem, N.C., Luke Kennard hit a 3-pointer with 6.6 seconds left, helping Duke (16-5, 4-4 ACC) rally for the road win.

Kennard finished with 34 points. Bryant Crawford scored a career-high 26 points, and John Collins added 20 for Wake Forest (12-9, 3-6).

(18) WEST VIRGINIA 81, TEXAS A&M 77: In Morgantown, W.Va., Jevon Carter had 19 points and nine rebounds, helping West Virginia (17-4) hold on. Admon Gilder scored 24 points for the Aggies (11-9).

(22) MARYLAND 85, MINNESOTA 78: In Minneapoli­s, Justin Jackson had a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, making all five of his 3-point attempts, and Maryland (19-2, 7-1) earned its sixth straight win. Akeem Springs led the Gophers (15-7, 3-6) with a season-high 23 points.

(23) SOUTH CAROLINA 63, MISSOURI 53: In Columbia, Mo., senior guard Sindarius Thornwell had a team-high 16 points and game-high 11 rebounds for the victorious Gamecocks (17-4, 7-1 SEC). Russell Woods finished with a career-high 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds for Missouri ((5-15, 0-8 SEC).

(25) FLORIDA 84, OKLAHOMA 52: In Norman, Okla., Kevarrius Hayes scored a career-high 20 points to help Florida (16-5) win in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Rashard Odomes scored 13 points for the Sooners (8-12).

BOISE STATE 80, WYOMING 65: In Laramie, Wyo., James Reid scored 16 points and Boise State built a 14-point halftime lead and cruised to its fifth win in six road games.

Paris Austin had 15 points for the Broncos (13-7, 6-3). Louis Adams finished with 12 points to lead Wyoming (14-8, 4-5).

SAN JOSE STATE 76, UNLV 72: In San Jose, Calif., Brandon Clarke scored 23 points and matched a career-high with 15 rebounds, and San Jose State (10-10, 3-6) rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat UNLV (10-12, 3-6).

Jovan Mooring scored 17 points to lead UNLV (10-12, 3-6), which hosts New Mexico on Wednesday.

COLORADO STATE 78, SAN DIEGO STATE 77: In San Diego, Gian Clavell scored a careerhigh 37 points and made a driving layup with 3.8 seconds remaining to lift Colorado State (14-8, 6-3), which erased a 13-point second-half deficit. Emmanuel Omogbo added a career-best 24 points for the Rams.

The Aztecs (11-9, 3-5) saw their 13-game home winning streak against Colorado State snapped.

UTAH STATE 78, FRESNO

STATE 65: In Logan, Utah, Koby McEwen had 22 points as Utah State (9-11, 3-6) shot 56 percent from the floor and halted a fourgame losing skid. Deshon Taylor finished with 21 points for the Bulldogs (13-8, 5-4).

(20) WEST TEXAS A&M 76, WNMU 61: In Silver City, Willie McCray hit 12 of 13 free throws and scored 22 points for Western New Mexico (2-17, 0-11 Lone Star). David Chavlovich had 17 of his team-high 21 points in the second half for the Division II nationally ranked Buffs (19-5, 7-4).

UTPB 85, ENMU 67: In Portales, James McPherson hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points as Texas-Permian Basin (16-4, 8-3 Lone Star) won. Joe Clarke’s 16 points led four double-figure scorers for the Greyhounds (8-13, 2-9).

COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS 71, NORTHERN NM 64: In Espanola, the host Eagles fell to 4-21 heading into their Monday night game against New Mexico State at the Santa Ana Star Center.

(1) LSU-ALEXANDRIA 84, UNIV.-SOUTHWEST 67: In Alexandria, La., the host team (21-0, 11-0 Red River Athletic Conference), ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, scored the game’s first 13 points. Joby Jackson had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the University of the Southwest (8-13, 2-9).

NMHU 85, CHADRON STATE 80: In Chadron, Neb., Ron Lawton scored 21 points and Highlands (8-12, 6-9 RMAC) prevailed over the Eagles (2-17, 2-13).
