Comcast awards nonprofit grants
The Comcast Foundation has announced that it has awarded $149,000 in grants to more than a dozen community organizations across New Mexico in 2016. The grants help grow the impact of programs aimed at the Comcast Foundation’s three areas of focus — expanding digital literacy, promoting service, and building tomorrow’s leaders.
To expand digital literacy, Comcast partners with organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico, the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, LULAC National Educational Service Center and YDI to offer a variety of STEM and technology skills-building programs and classes.
Comcast’s partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs includes the My.Future program, an initiative designed to teach club members about the digital world and ignite their passion for technology. My.Future allows club members to select from more than 40 activities that reinforce digital literacy.
In the area of promoting service, Comcast celebrated its 15th annual Comcast Cares Day, the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. Last April, more than 3,000 New Mexico Comcast employees and their families, friends and community partners volunteered to complete service projects across New Mexico. As part of this day of giving, the Comcast Foundation provides grants to local community partner organizations on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. In 2016, the Comcast Foundation distributed more than $57,000 in grants to 11 nonprofit organizations.
To help build tomorrow’s leaders, Comcast supports youth mentoring and leadership programs in partnership with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico, where Comcast supports the Mentor 2.0 program.
“Comcast is dedicated to improving the communities we work and live in, as well as enriching the lives of those around us,” said Chris Dunkeson, Comcast area vice president.
