- CATCHES OF THE WEEK

John McWilliams of Border, Texas, caught and released a 5.77-pound largemouth bass Monday at Ute Lake. He was using a Rapala Shad Rap at 40 feet. Damian Aguilar, 17, of Santo Domingo Pueblo caught a 20-inch rainbow trout Jan. 24 on the Pecos River. He was using a custom-tied fly.

AROUND THE STATE SANDIA LAKES: Fishing at all three lakes has been very good. We last stocked on Tuesday, with 2,100 pounds of rainbow trout. Anglers are catching their limits using salmon eggs, wax worms, and various PowerBaits. Our annual trout tournament started Wednesday and will run until all tags are gone. Desiree Benavidez

SAN JUAN RIVER: Streamflow from Navajo Reservoir was increased to 500 cfs on Friday and was at 511 cfs on Monday. The increase was due to the increasing snowpack in the San Juan River Basin. NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was very good using PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, wax worms, salmon eggs and San Juan worms for trout.

Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E, BELEN, CORRALES and PERALTA DRAINS was good using wax worms, egg patterns, San Juan worms, salmon eggs, worms and small streamers for trout. Anglers also reported catching a few small bass and carp on the Albuquerqu­e Drain.

Trout fishing through the high-quality waters of the SAN JUAN RIVER was fair using streamers, woolly buggers, red annelids, Desert Storms, red larvae, bunny leeches, egg patterns and princess nymphs. Fishing through the bait waters was slow to fair using worms, PowerBait, woolly buggers, red annelids and jerk baits.

The ice thickness on Friday at LAKE MALOYA was about 9 inches. Fishing was reported as very good by anglers using jigs and green garlic salmon eggs.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery on Monday was 32 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, woolly buggers and San Juan worms for rainbow trout.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 381 cfs. Fishing was fair using streamers, San Juan worms and weighted woolly buggers for rainbow trout. We had no other reports.

Ice thickness last weekend at EAGLE NEST LAKE was about 13 inches. Fishing was fair using mealworms, earthworms, PowerBait and ice jigs for rainbow trout, kokanee and perch. Anglers having the best luck were working the baits rather than letting them sit.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 27 cfs. Early in the week, fishing on the Jemez was fair to good using wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

FENTON LAKE is closed to fishing and all other activities due to thin ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 575-829-3630.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was good using spoons and soft plastics at 40 feet for smallmouth bass and an occasional largemouth bass. Fishing was good using Slingblade­s and slab spoons at 50 to 60 feet for walleye. Fishing was fair to good using slab spoons at 45 to 50 feet for white bass. feet for white bass.

The ice at STORRIE LAKE has disappeare­d and the shoreline is open for bank fishing.

BLUEWATER LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to thin ice conditions. There was some open water for shoreline fishing. Fishing was slow with just a few trout caught by anglers using PowerBait.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair to good using spoons and jigs for white bass.

At YOUNG POND, fishing was very good using PowerBait for trout.

Fishing was very good at GREEN MEADOW LAKE using PowerBait and worms for trout.

At GREEN ACRES LAKE, fishing was very good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and homemade dough bait for trout.

Fishing at OASIS PARK LAKE was very good using homemade dough bait and Pistol Petes for trout.
