TV series ‘The Prognosticators’ focuses on NFL from fan perspective
Every Tuesday, Khalil Ekulona heads to uPublic Studios near Downtown Albuquerque.
There he is met by Robert Parker, Benjamin Eagle and Scott Blair.
All football season, the quartet has been hard at work filming the TV series “The Prognosticators.”
The series airs at 10:30 p.m. each Thursday on Channel 27. It can also be streamed online via YouTube by searching Prognosticator Productions.
“It’s a show about NFL football from the fans’ perspective,” Ekulona says. “It’s a fun and quirky show. We are big-time football fans. And we’re also there to entertain. It’s a great mesh of what we’re doing.”
The series is filmed on a small budget. But the hosts of the show know a little something about football.
“Each week, we break down the games,” Blair says. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously, as far as the way it’s presented. The facts are there. It gives football fans a different way to get information about their favorite sport.”
The four have been doing this for more than a year.
They have segments such as “Dear Diary,” “Honest Press Conference” and “Kool Aid.”
Ekulona says the segments are exactly what it says.
“We write a script about how honest a press conference would really be,” he says. “That’s the fun of it all. We’re presenting the information in a funny way.”
Inside the studio, there are cameras, one filming each of the hosts.
They cut back and forth, usually in one take.
“This is all done with our own time,” Ekulona says.
Blair has also been a football coach in Florida and moved to Albuquerque recently.
During many of the shows, he will break down the offense and defense of certain games.
“This is where we bring in the actual football to the series,” Blair says. “It’s important that we give some type of review and facts.”
Ekulona says the show is for hard-core football fans, but even a novice will be entertained.
“We try not to make it complicated at all,” he says. “This is the reason the segments are so fun. We want everybody to enjoy it. The show is like no other on the air right now. Maybe one day, we’ll get picked up by HBO or something.”
