BASKETBALL

EAGLES ON THE WING: With a national title in its sights, the Northern New Mexico College women’s team will be heading out to the Associatio­n of Independen­t Institutio­ns basketball conference championsh­ips next weekend. The Eagles will join five other teams in the tournament that starts Feb. 24 at the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo. NMMC will open play against Rochester College.

LIFT UP AND RUNNING: The Mother Lift, providing access to the expert runs at Parajito Mountain Ski Area, is back open again after a month undergoing repairs to fix damage caused by a fallen tree that had been damaged in the 2011 Las Conchas Fire.

BASEBALL: The E&G Baseball Academy is looking to build a 14U team to play this spring, with tryouts scheduled for Sunday at Gen. Franklin Miles Park, 1027 Camino Carlos Rey. Tryouts begin at 2 p.m. and interested ball players can register at engbasebal­lacademy.wufoo.com.

SNOWSHOE HIKE: Check out the grandeur of the Valles Caldera National Preserve on a guided snowshoe hike Sunday from 1-3:30 p.m. It’s a great chance not only to learn snowshoe navigation, but also to gain more knowledge about plants’ and animals’ wintertime habits, as well as the geology of the area.
