CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Ryan Saul of Albuquerqu­e caught a 20-inch rainbow trout Feb. 16 on the Albuquerqu­e Drain. He was using salmon eggs.

James Brewer of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a 6-pound largemouth bass Feb.11 at Elephant Butte Lake. He was fishing the McCrae Canyon area and using a crank bait.

Alfonso Morales of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a rainbow trout approximat­ely 27 inches in length Feb. 10 at Tingley Beach. He was fishing the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond and using a custom tied fly.

AROUND THE STATE

SANDIA LAKES: Fishing has been good. Anglers have had the most success using lures, worms, and salmon peach PowerBait. We last stocked on Monday with rainbow trout. Our tag tournament is still running. Desiree Benavidez

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Trout fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was very good using Pistol Petes, PowerBait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair using San Juan worms, streamers and small egg patterns. Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E DRAIN was very good using salmon eggs, wax worms, earth worms and PowerBait for trout. Fishing on the BELEN and PERALTA DRAINS was good using worms and salmon eggs for trout. Stream flow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 62 cfs. Early in the week, fishing on the Jemez was slow with the high-water conditions. Fishing on the CEBOLLA above Fenton Lake was good using salmon eggs. FENTON LAKE is closed to fishing and all other activities due to thin ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 575-829-3630. Fishing at MONASTERY LAKE was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing on the PECOS RIVER was good using salmon eggs, worms and small bright colored nymphs for trout. LAKE ALICE and LAKE MALOYA have closed to ice fishing due to poor ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 505-445-5607. EAGLE NEST LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to thinning ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 575-377-1594. Stream flow on the SAN JUAN RIVER from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 517 cfs. Trout fishing through the quality waters was fair using princess nymphs, small streamers, Desert Storms, bunny leeches, OJs, egg patterns and red larva. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using salmon eggs, PowerBait, worms, woolly buggers and jerk baits At NAVAJO LAKE, fishing for northern pike was slow to fair using jerk baits and swim baits. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was slow with just a few caught by anglers using swim baits and jigs. BLUEWATER LAKE is completely free of ice. Both boat ramps are open and the lake level has come up about 16 feet. Fishing at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was fair to good using jerk baits, crank baits and spoons for white bass. Fishing was fair using crank baits and jerk baits for largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using cut bait and liver for catfish. At ESCONDIDA LAKE, fishing was good using Pistol Petes, Fisher Chick spinners, PowerBait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing at YOUNG POND was very good using salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout. Fishing at BATAAN LAKE was good using woolly buggers, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. At BOTTOMLESS LAKES, fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes and PowerBait for trout. Fishing at EL RITO CREEK was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms, Pistol Petes and garlic cheese for trout. At GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR, fishing was fair to good using worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout. Fishing at LAKE VAN was good using PowerBait, worms, spoons, garlic cheese and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing at SUMNER LAKE was good using jig and grub combinatio­ns and spoons for walleye. At OASIS PARK LAKE, fishing for trout was good using marshmallo­ws, salmon eggs and assorted colors of PowerBait. Stream flow on the PECOS RIVER below Sumner Lake on Monday was 21 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using PowerBait and Pistol Petes. Fishing at PERCH LAKE was good using Pistol Petes, homemade dough bait, PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
