COLLEGE SKIING: New Mexico Lobo Krista Niiranen was named the Rocky Mountain Intercolle­giate Ski Associatio­n MVP. The announceme­nt was made on the eve of the RMISA championsh­ips, which begin in Beaver Creek and Minturn, Colo. today.

NMSU SOFTBALL: In Cathedral City, Calif., seventh-ranked LSU (10-1) defeated New Mexico State (4-5) 9-0 in five innings Thursday to open the Mary Nutter Classic.

EQUESTRIAN: New Mexico State will host the TCU Horned Frogs today at 10 a.m. and the South Dakota State Jackrabbit­s on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the NMSU Equestrian Center.

COLLEGE BASEBALL: University of the Southwest’s Alex Goodman was named Red River Athletic Conference pitcher of the week. Goodman pitched a seven-inning no-hitter to register a 3-0 victory over Randall (Okla.). He struck out six and only allowed only one base runner on a hit-by-pitch.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Tennessee and BYU have agreed to a home-andhome series that includes games in 2019 and 2023.
