Utah Valley topples cold-shooting Aggies

-

LAS CRUCES — Kenneth Ogbe and Ivory Young each scored 16 points to lead Utah Valley to a 84-72 win over New Mexico State on Thursday night, ending the Aggies’ 14-game home win streak.

New Mexico State entered the game with a five-game winning streak against the Wolverines. Utah Valley hadn’t beaten the Aggies since Feb. 27, 2014, in a 66-61 overtime win at Orem, Utah.

Utah Valley (12-15, 4-8 WAC) entered Thursday’s game having lost four of its last five. The Wolverines used a 22-3 run over a 7½-minute span in the second half to stun the Aggies.

Ian Baker had 21 points for New Mexico State (23-5, 9-3), which shot only 46 percent from the free throw line (13-for28) and 39 percent from the field.

The Aggies return to action Saturday at home against Seattle. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
