Music-show winners, ‘Motown: The Musical’ among highlights
Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton never realized how an online audition would change their lives.
They are grateful for the opportunity — and ready to move on.
The couple — whose stage name is Alex & Sierra — appeared on the third season of “The X Factor.” At the end of the season, they were crowned the winners.
“We were pretty shocked and overwhelmed,” Deaton says of winning the competition. “We were always in the studio with the other contestants, so we really couldn’t gauge what was happening in the outside world.”
Like many others who have won singing competitions, Kinsey and Deaton are trying to move on from the show.
But they are grateful for the opportunity.
“There’s definitely a stigma on artists that came from TV shows,” Deaton says. “We write our own music, and we know that we wouldn’t be here without the show. A lot of people think of us as a product, and we’re more than that. We’re actually two individuals who enjoy making music.” Kinsey supports Deaton’s words. “You can’t pay too much attention to that,” he says. “It’s a fine line. Our new music is speaking for itself now.”
