PREDICTION, Lobos finish 16-14, 9-9, Brown Honorable Mention, can’t play defense, too many turnovers, not a team leader. Can’t afford to fire Neal! — BJ

VINCE GUILLEN:

Thanks for the tour down memory lane with your story of George Maes of Santa Cruz scoring 81 points. North-central New Mexico once had quite the rivalry games. Anytime the teams from Los Alamos, Espanola, Pojoaque, Santa Fe and St. Mike’s were playing each other, unlike today’s sparse gymnasiums, the fans needed to arrive by halftime of the JV game before the fire marshals locked the doors. Games were played on Friday and Saturday nights. Some players competed for 64 minutes in a 24 hour time frame. No fatigue allowed. Great times. — N.M. Old Timer

WHAT UNM

needs to do is hire all their Head Coaches from New Mexico. But Yvonne proved that theory wrong. — JRM-Corrales

ELIJAH BROWN

drew fouls because he was able to fool the refs. After taking a jump shot, especially from beyond the arc, he falls backwards, kick out his legs and makes it look like the defender fouled him. Me thinks the refs finally wised up to the antics of Elijah “Flopper” Brown, and he’s no longer getting as many cheap points. — Jiff

ALFRED ARCHIBEQUE,

like many Journal readers, still doesn’t get it. Alfred, you state, “lack of locals and good competition equals empty Lobo stadiums/arenas.” If you don’t understand the concept of how to be competitive, don’t use the term in the same sentence as “lack of locals.” Competition is about putting the best team on the floor/field to win games. If talent is substandard, you can’t be competitive. It doesn’t matter where the player comes from. — Rick

“BEING A

politician is like being a football coach. You have to be smart enough to understand the game, but dumb enough to think it’s important.” — Eugene McCarthy — Larry the Vol
