De Leon, Abram
"The happiest people in life are the givers, not the getters." Abram De Leon, affectionately known as Abe, was born in Pharr, TX on July 20, 1955 to Gilberto and Viola De Leon and passed away in Albuquerque, NM on February 13, 2017. He graduated from PSJA High School in 1975 and soon afterwards joined the United States Air Force. He served with honor in many capacities and specifically as SSgt. Information Management Specialist in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm from August 2, 1990 to December 31, 1993. He sought retirement and was honorably discharged with 18 years of service to our nation on December 31, 1993.
Abe had many loves in his life such as playing the slot machines, traveling, playing the slots, helping others, playing the slots, eating fajita tacos, playing the slots, drinking margaritas, and playing the slots! Lady Luck was always there to support his love of gambling, which in turn supported his generous giving to others of his time, talent and treasures.
His parents and baby brother, Rodolfo, precede him in death. Left to cherish his memory are brothers: Gilbert (Cookie) De Leon and Hector (Paula) De Leon; sisters: Myra (Leonel†) Ramirez, Gracie (Israel†) Olabarrieta, and Debbie De Leon; sister-in-law: Olga "Melda" De Leon; life partner: Annette M. Klimka; nieces: Melba, Melissa, Melanie, Melina, Becky, Jennifer, and Christina; nephews: Leo, Gus, Hector & Robert; fur babies: Spuds & Chuy.
Abe was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, TX. A memorial mass will be celebrated and his cremated remains will be buried with full military honors at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX at a later date.
