Gonzales, Tony "Chief"

Tony Gonzales, age 87 of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 19, 1929 in Santa Fe, NM to the late Madadeno and Libradita Gonzales. Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army who served his country during the Korean War. Tony served 42 years as an Architect in Civil Engineering in Albuquerque, NM.

He was preceded in death by two children, Nina Carter and Gene Gonzales; and brothers, Benny and Jerry Gonzales.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Aurelia Gonzales; his children, Margaret Gonzales and partner, Steve Montoya, Susie Leyva and husband Edward Chavez, Gray Gonzales and wife Shawn, Carolyn Gonzales and partner, Mike Menard; brother, Eddie Gonzales; sister, Viola Valdez; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched. Committal services will be conducted Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Urn Bearers will be David Carter, Edward Chavez, Eddie Gonzales, Joel Leyva, Evone Martinez, Mike Menard and Don Valdez. Honorary Bearers will be Xavier and Nicolas Gonzales.

The Celebration of Tony’s life will follow at the American Legion Post #69, 9000 4th St. NW, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
