Bryce says goodbye in fine style

LOS ANGELES — La Cueva High graduate Bryce Alford, playing his final home game at UCLA, hit four-of-five 3-pointers in the first six minutes on Wednesday night in a 98-66 blowout of Washington (9-20, 2-15 Pac-12).

Alford didn’t score again in the first half, but heated up again after intermissi­on for the third-ranked Bruins (27-3, 14-3). Alford was 10-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-14 from 3-point range for a game-high 29 points.

It was UCLA’s eighth straight win, but it lost starter TJ Leaf to injury.

Lonzo Ball added 19 points, seven rebounds and eight assists for the Bruins. WAKE FOREST 88, (8) LOUISVILLE 81: In Winston-Salem, N.C., John Collins had 25 points and 11 rebounds to help Wake Forest rally from 14 down to upset Louisville.

Keyshawn Woods added 20 points for the Demon Deacons (17-12, 8-9 Atlantic Coast Conference). Dinos Mitoglou and Mitchell Wilbekin hit back-toback huge 3-pointers in the final 3 minutes to turn a 75-72 lead into a nine-point margin.

Deng Adel scored 22 points for the Cardinals (23-7, 11-6). (12) FLORIDA 78, ARKANSAS 65: In Gainsville, Fla., Canyon Barry scored 14 points, his best game since injuring an ankle two weeks ago, and Florida handled Arkansas in the SEC.

Kasey Hill, KeVaughn Allen and Chris Chiozza added 12 points apiece for the Gators, who bounced back from their first loss in 10 games and clinched the No. 2 seed in the Southeaste­rn Conference tournament next week.

Florida (24-6, 14-3) led by as many as 16 in the first half. Arkansas is 22-8, 11-6. (19) NOTRE DAME 82, BOSTON COLLEGE 66: In South Bend, Ind., playing his final home game, V.J. Beachem scored 22 points to lead Notre Dame (23-7, 12-5 ACC) to its sixth straight win.

Mountain West

SAN DIEGO STATE 51, AIR FORCE 38: In San Diego, the Aztecs (17-12, 9-8) took a 22-13 halftime lead in a slow affair against the Falcons (11-19, 4-13). Malik Pope scored a team-high 11 for SDSU, which concludes the regular season on Saturday against New Mexico in the Pit.

NEVADA 82, SJSU 67: In San Jose, Calif., the Wolfpack (24-6, 13-4) raced to a 47-24 halftime lead and got a game-high got 20 points from senior Marcus Marshall. San Jose State is 14-14, 7-10.

NMHU: Marlon Johnson, a 6-10 senior from Joliet, Ill., of New Mexico Highlands was named second-team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. He led the league in rebounds (10.3 per game) and averaged 14.4 points. Teammate Ron Lawton was honorable mention.
