‘RISE & TRY WEEK’: FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Balloon museum is planning nine days of events as a lure for spring break ‘staycations’
You’ve heard of “staycations”? Well, the city of Albuquerque is rolling out a family-friendly spring break in the Duke City called “Rise & Try Week” over nine days from March 18-26.
The wide variety of activities inside and around the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum are designed to encourage people of all ages to try something new and to spend time together, city officials said in a news release.
Galactic Ambassadors kicks off the week with an arts event March 18, a Saturday. Participants visiting over the nine days can experience the Balloon Museum’s first-ever drone workshop, guided tours of the special exhibit Arctic Air, Spring Break Family Day and a balloon rally, “Ballooning for All.” Details about the week can be found at https://goo.gl/ xnJHKh.
The art event, Rise and Try to Imagine the Galaxies, runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It features an InterGalactic Ambassador Assembly costume party for all ages and an art auction. Special guests include robot BB-8 of ABQ, Imperial Storm Troopers and other “Star Wars” characters.
Entry to this event is included with payment of regular Balloon Museum admission fees, ranging from $1-$4 per person.
“The Drone Zone: Fly a Quadcopter” is scheduled for March 20 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Space is limited for this hands-on workshop for ages 10 and up. Learn about drones, test your flight skills and keep your drone afterward.
The enrollment fee is $15-$20 per person and advance registration is available online at www.cabq.gov/ balloon.
Spring Break Family Day, now in its 10th year, returns March 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests are invited to enjoy kites, balloons, bubbles, gliders, entertainment and hands-on art stations. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic or enjoy food truck fare served on the Balloon Museum’s North Grounds. Entry to all activities is included with regular admission fees.
For shutterbugs, “How to Take Better Photos with Your Phone” will take place March 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. Advance registration is available online at www.cabq.gov/balloon. Cost per person is $10.
“Ballooning for All,” March 25 from 7 a.m. to noon, is a balloon rally (weather permitting) for people of all abilities and special needs. Admission is free.
