Larry Henning, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on March 4th with his loving wife by his side. He was born in La Junta, Colorado, however he lived the majority of his life in Albuquerque and considered it home. Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marci, brother Jack Henning and wife Kathy, nieces Pat Henning Little and husband John, Barbara Henning Tedder and husband Joe, sister-in-law Carolyn Henning and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Daphna and John Henning and brother Bob Henning.

Larry attended Mt. View Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High and Albuquerque High School. After graduating from high school he became a cabinet maker, owning of his own company.

Larry joined the New Mexico Air National Guard and was deployed to Korea in 1968 during the Pueblo crisis. Upon his return to the states he continued to work in the Air National Guard’s avionics shop until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, Larry’s greatest joy in life was when he and Marci became host parents to foreign exchange students. He always said, “We lucked out by missing the 2am feedings, dirty diapers and the terrible 2s, landing in the middle of the teen years.” His girls became his children: Andie, Anna, Carolina, Connie, Elena, Idah, Kattarina, Linda, Nicole, Salome and Sarai. In addition Larry is survived by his other family, Ywonne and Juha Pehkonen,, Kathy Finley, Lesa and Michael Brannock, Robin and Mike Ricci, Nancy and Bill Parsons and the “Gray Gang”.

In addition Larry found joy in flying his plane, relaxing at Elephant Butte Lake on their houseboat, fishing and riding dirt bikes at their Bluewater Lake Cabin and managing and maintaining their apartments.

A celebration of life service will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd NE, on March 17th, 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the charity of your choice.
