NAPA Auto Parts is relocating its store on San Mateo NE near Osuna to new quarters that will give it three times more space and additional customer parking.

NAPA is heading south to 3157 San Mateo NE, near Candelaria, to an 18,200-square-foot storefront most recently leased by Hancock Fabrics, which was in business at the site for about 20 years.

Allen Sigmon Real Estate Group brokers Jeff Martinez and Rob Powell represented NAPA in the transaction.

“The lease is signed, and they are moving forward with construction at the site,” at the La Mesa Shopping Center, Martinez said. He said the new location gives NAPA the opportunity to increase its inventory offerings to both wholesale customers, such as mechanic shops, and direct to the general public.

“There’s already a (loading) dock in the back, which is great for the wholesale side of the business,” Martinez said. He said about 20 people will be employed at the new store, including delivery drivers and showroom staff.

“The owner of the shopping center was very excited that we were able to find a new tenant before Hancock moved out,” he added.

NAPA has been active in the market “because the economy has been a little slower in the Albuquerque area, which means DIYers are keeping their cars longer and repairing them,” said Martinez.

He said NAPA operates an 80,000-square-foot distribution center in the area to service its six company-owned retail outlets and is considering opening another three locations in Albuquerque.
