Albuquerque Journal

News reporting needs to be more neutral

-

First, I’d like to thank the Journal’s editors for allowing Mr. Aragon’s letter; “Conservatives don’t get a say in Journal” (March 10). Until his letter, I considered unsubscribing due to the overwhelming articles published in the Journal being slanted to the left politically. I agree with Mr. Aragon in doubting if “the average Democrat knows the difference in the words ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’.”

News reporting used to be trusted as always being neutral, informative and non-biased reporting of the true facts! Unfortunately, it has more often than not evolved into publishing the slanted views of political parties and celebrities. Editors should always weigh the overall number of articles and ensure there is a somewhat equal amount of differing views. The power of news from reporters as well as editors can be a very dangerous influence on the paper’s readers! Just count the number of liberal versus conservative articles reported before and after the last election. The scales drastically favor the liberals. I can tell from an article’s title that it is biased. An editor should never let that happen!

I realize the media in New Mexico cater to the liberals. After all, there are far more of them in this state, but if they had the non-biased truth from the media they might just be able to make choices that are better for America. However, they currently don’t have that and make decisions based on what’s good for their party! This is not the United States of liberals or Republicans, it is still the un-tied states of America! So, editors, please un-tie the voters in New Mexico! Give them the information needed to make intelligent voting decisions. It has to start somewhere! THOMAS H. SMITH Rio Rancho
