ART EXHIBITION­S/MUSEUM

CROSSING PATHS ART EXHIBIT: An exhibit featuring two artists who work in different media, but explore similar themes of landscape and identity. Jennifer Pretzeus incorporat­es clay, earth and minerals into her paintings. GERMINATIO­N: MOSAIC ARTISTS OF NEW MEXICO AND RACHEL ZOLLINGER’S FOUND OBJECT ART SHOW: The artists of Mosaic New Mexico and local artist Rachel Zollinger interpret life in the outdoors of New Mexico in two very different ways. The mosaic pieces in the show will consider themes such as the interconne­ction of life in the bosque, of germinatio­n and the necessity of water, oxygen, light and darkness, as well as dormancy and pollinatio­n. Zollinger looks at the objects that have been discarded in New Mexico public lands and sees the inherent art in them. These items have been ravaged by weather and decay

ARCHAEOLOG­Y OF THE GILA FORKS: Chris Turnbow, senior environmen­tal scientist and archaeolog­ist, will discuss the Mimbres cultural change in the immediate Forks area while showing many pictures of Mimbres ceramics. The Mimbres people were a subset and region of the larger Mogollon culture evident in the area and know for their classic black and white pottery. This lecture is in anticipati­on of the Friends of Coronado Historic Site scheduled overnight field trip to Silver City and the Gila Cliffs in April. Adults, $5, Friends of CHS are free.
