24, 2017 in Pismo Beach, California. He was 92. He was born in Los Lunas, New Mexico on August 16, 1924 to Joseph F. Tondre,

Sr. and Ruth Powers Tondre. Joe, known as "Bipsy" in the family, grew up in Los Lunas with four younger sisters. His UNM education was interrupted in 1943 by a twoand-a-half stint in the army. In the final months of WWII he received four overseas medals while serving with General George Patton’s Third Army in France & Germany. In 1982 he self-published a book titled "Letters Home." The book chronicled his time in the army from basic training to discharge through the letters written to his mother.

After the war, Joe graduated from UNM, and then moved to California. He began working in the produce business, ultimately spending most of his career as a manager of Phelan and Taylor. He resided in Pismo Beach and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was an usher, a volunteer in the church rectory and was member of The Knights of Columbus.

Joe loved to travel and kept close contact with family in California and New Mexico. He visited ofter with his parents , his four sisters and their families.

He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Anne Williams and Ruth Broussard. His survivors include his sisters, Katy Lang and Patsy Peterson, his brothers-in-law Doug Peterson and James Williams and friends Coleen Phelan and Tony Trujillo.

A funeral Mass was held in California. At a later date a Mass will be said in Los Lunas and his ashes will be interred next to his parents in the family plot in the Campo Santo in Los Lentes. Arrangements by Romero Funeral Home.
