I stopped flying UA 20 years ago
I, for one, hope the gentleman who was dragged off the United Airlines plane recently sues them individually and collectively for assault and battery, if nothing else. UA has been treating their customers with disdain for years.
Some 20 years ago I was flying from Albuquerque to North Dakota and, after changing planes, minutes before departure, I was called off the plane. I hurried back to the checkin desk, expecting some bad news. Had someone in my family died? But, no. I asked the lady at the desk what the problem was, and she ignored me, just kept tapping away at her computer. All the while I stood there, wondering what was going on, she didn’t deign to even look at me. I approached another employee, but got the same “I don’t see you” treatment. I was at a loss and wanted to know why I had been taken off the plane, but no one would speak to me. Minutes passed, with not so much as a glance my way. At last, the woman attendant said, “You can get back on the plane,” still with no further explanation. By this time, I was understandably upset, and I said, “Why then did you order me off?” (and was told) “We were overbooked.”
That was all the answer I ever got. I returned to the plane and we immediately took off with several empty seats.
I always wondered, “Why me?” finally deciding it was my name — Eagle. I guess they thought if anyone had to go it should be the Indian.
My letter of complaint to the airline went unacknowledged. I have never again flown on a United plane, nor will I. LOLA R. EAGLE Las Cruces
