Gathering of Nations, Gregory Alan Isakov among highlights
Gregory Alan Isakov gets his greatest ideas while working on his Colorado farm, where he grows heirloom seeds for a seed company.
It was while he was working the land where the idea for his latest album came sprung up.
“The new record has always been in the back of my creative mind,” he says. “I’ve written some new material and will begin to walk away for it for three weeks. Then I will see how I feel about it.”
Isakov is a indie folk artist who has released a few albums over the course of his career.
A critical darling on the indie scene, Isakov tries to grow with each album. His coming album has been a long process, because touring has been so hectic.
“I’m lucky that I don’t have a lot of label pressure,” he says. “There’s a creative part of me that wants to sit in my room and write forever. I hope that my craft is improving over the years.”
Isakov will perform on Saturday, April 22, at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. To read more, see Page 20.
It’s April and time for the annual Gathering of Nations. Although the venue has changed to Expo New Mexico, it will feature all of what you expect to find at the North America’s largest powwow. I caught up with reigning Miss Indian World Danielle Ta’Sheena Finn about what her year has been like.
