Avid fisherman and beloved family member and friend, Joseph Richard Martinez, passed away early Friday morning, April 21st, 2017 due to an extended illness. Rick, as most knew him, was a kind and generous soul, constantly smiling and always optimistic. Born to parents Deacon Bob and Florinda Martinez, Rick, along with his brothers and sisters, Bernadette, Ron, Bob, and Brenda, spent his early years in Santa Fe before moving to Albuquerqu­e, where he attended Sandia High School. Rick lived a productive life, with his main career focused on property research, where he owned an independen­t business, Real Property Resources. Always inquisitiv­e of nature with a passion for the outdoors, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology from New Mexico State University. His love of the natural world extended into his hobbies where he spent much time fishing, golfing and camping. His other loves in life included his beautiful wife, Sophia Martinez, and daughter, Marissa Martinez, as well as step children, Mark, Viviana, and Martin Sena and wife, Monica Sena, stepgrandc­hildren, Ezra, Ethan, Ean, Ezekiel, Tino and Mariah Sena, and Sebastian, Mikala and Grace Gallegos, and step-great grandchild­ren, Ember and Hailynn Ha, Noah and Myla Sena, Jayden Benevides, Amyah Garcia, Sophia and Amadeo Gallegos. He is preceded only by his father, Deacon Bob Martinez, who is awaiting his arrival for many new fishing adventures.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 at French’s Mortuary located at 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, for family (5pm) and the public (6 pm), immediatel­y followed by memorial services (7-9 pm). A rosary (8am) and funeral mass (9am) will be held on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church located at 11509 Indian School Rd NE.
