3 dogs die in fire at apartments near UNM
Three dogs died in an apartment fire near the University of New Mexico on Thursday morning, according to the Albuquerque Fire Department.
AFD spokeswoman Melissa Romero said firefighters were called to 124 Harvard SE around 8:30 a.m. to find smoke inside one of the apartments.
“The fire was found in the ceiling in a second story apartment,” she said. “Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes.”
Romero said the human residents of the apartment selfevacuated without being injured and “a ferret walked out of the apartment unharmed.”
The apartment sustained extensive damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Romero said.
