Aggie women will stay close to home

NMSU to play in ABQ Regional

LAS CRUCES — The New Mexico State women’s golf team will attempt to make itself at home in Albuquerqu­e after earning a spot in the NCAA Regional at the UNM Championsh­ip Course.

The Aggies, making their fourth straight regional appearance under coach Jackie Booth, are seeded No. 14 in the event which takes place May 8-10.

No. 1-ranked Stanford, No. 9 Duke, No. 12 Southern California, No. 16 Miami and No. 17 Oklahoma State are also in the Albuquerqu­e regional.

Freshman Pun Chanachai of Bangkok leads NMSU after winning medalist honors at last week’s WAC Championsh­ips. NMSU’s lineup also included Socorro senior Kristen Cline and Rio Rancho freshman Dominique Galloway.

The top six teams in each of four regions and the top three individual­s not associated with one of those teams will advance to the 2017 NCAA Championsh­ips in Sugar Grove, Ill.

The regionals feature 54 holes of stroke play, 18 holes daily.
