‘CREATING A BRAVE SPACE’
Wise Fool presents 3rd CircAspire show
If you’ve got a trapeze, aerialists, clowns and dancers, stiltwalkers and gymnasts — a human circus, as it were — why not examine the current disruption caused by political divisiveness?
The creative minds at Wise Fool — a revered nonprofit circus company and educational program in Santa Fe — are taking on the political climate. Their third annual event for student performers and pre-professionals, called CircAspire, involves an allegorical plot called “The Ups and Downs: A Circus Recipe for Stardust Soup.”
The story developed over several months, said Amy Christian, co-director along with Sarah Jane Moody. The soundtracks were created by Ginger Dunnill, known as DJ Ginger, and visuals were created by Lorie Corbus.
“It’s a very fluid process in every way, but we wanted to bring in what’s been happening in the country. We know not everyone is on the same page,” Christian said during a recent rehearsal.
CircAspire also involves more experienced performers who work with less seasoned ones. The performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Wise Fool’s performance space, 1131-B Siler Road in Santa Fe.
The show features 29 performers, a group that also includes dancers from Capital High School, and will feature several dramatic turns, followed by a warm twist, to illustrate the ways humans become embroiled in disagreements.
