Chief Eden must work to restore pride in APD

-

A RETURN TO police professionalism, please. As if we didn’t distrust our Albuquerque Police Department enough, now we find the department chooses to extend that distrust by setting up a propaganda site on Facebook.

I was one of those who commented on KOB’s internet site after I watched their short video of that horrific crash, then a longer version I found on my Journal subscriber post . ... My post on KOB’s site, along with others, was inundated with insulting comments and posts insisting the woman was clearly at fault and the driver of the police car had done no wrong. Furthermore, interspersed throughout were lectures on how one should respond when hearing a siren and seeing the flashing lights of a police car — the police report, by the way, said the police car’s lights were flashing, but there was no mention of a siren. In the meantime, I couldn’t help but wonder where all these commenters came from — some would call them trolls sent to sabotage a story they didn’t approve of.

Thanks to the Journal’s April 26 article ... I now know where those frustratingly distorted “police can do no wrong” posts (may have come) from. Then, continuing to read the Journal’s article I found, much to my astonishment, that Albuquerque’s police chief (appears to support) this Facebook comment manner of doing business. I would ask that Chief Gorden Eden take a hard look at the effect his efforts are having on the public, then ... focus all his efforts on bringing back the pride and professionalism that was once the hallmark of Albuquerque’s finest.
