Jarrett, Bill W.

-

Bill W. Jarrett, age 95, beloved father, husband, grandfather, mentor and role model to so many, was called to his eternal resting place on May 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He entered this world on February 15, 1922 in Goodland, KS, born to Don and Neva Jarrett.

He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 67 years, Freda, as well as his sons, Zane (Cheryl) and Danny Jarrett; his daughters, Kay (Ken) Grady and Nancy (Mark) Gorman, along with nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bill served as a proud member of the Fighting 44th Infantry Division out of Oklahoma during World War II. He was truly a decorated war hero, having been involved in seven separate invasions and receiving a letter of commendation from Commanding Brigadier General Raymond S. McLain for his distinguished service in a battle near Vittoria, Sicilly, as well as a Good Conduct Medal, a Bronze Arrowhead, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

During his long and accomplished vocational career, he worked for Thompson Products (now TRW) as well as Jaynes Corporation before owning his own business, Best Refrigeration.

He reluctantly retired from the workforce at the young age of 85 but could still be found very early just about every morning, well into his 90’s, at a local McDonald’s with his group of loyal friends (affectionately called the Old Cronies’ Club by Freda), solving all the world’s problems.

His wisdom, insight, handyman skills and wry sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. Interment will follow the service at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 2:15 p.m.
