Three indicted in 2 separate killings
Victims related to suspects in both cases
Three people were indicted in Sandoval County last week on murder charges connected to two unrelated killings, according to court documents.
Liam and Jacob Johnson, ages 18 and 20, respectively, face firstdegree murder and conspiracy charges in the death of their uncle, Donald Kalma. Thomas Goodridge, 72, accused of killing his wife, was also indicted on a first-degree murder charge.
Sandoval County sheriff’s deputies said the Johnson brothers of Bernalillo killed their uncle April 21 with a sledgehammer and dumped his body in an arroyo in
Rio Rancho.
Jacob Johnson told deputies that Kalma had “disrupted” his relationship with his brother, and so the two hatched a plan to kill him, according to a statement of probable cause. Both brothers, deputies said, struck Kalma with a sledgehammer.
Deputies said the injuries to Kalma’s head were so severe that it was initially unclear whether he’d been beaten, stabbed or shot.
Goodridge of Placitas told detectives that he awoke in the middle of the night on April 22 worried that he and his wife would be attacked. He said that he had been hearing voices that indicated he and his wife would be harmed. He said he did not want his wife to “suffer any pain,” and wanted to “take her out of her misery,” according to a probable cause statement.
His wife, Anna Goodridge, was still sleeping when he beat her to death with a rock, according to court documents.
Friends told the Journal that Goodridge struggled with mental illness, but believed it was under control.
