BCBS grants $20K for family support
Abrazos Family Support Services announced that it has received a $20,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico through its Healthy Kids, Healthy Families initiative.
Abrazos’ communitybased Health and Wellness program will provide opportunities for children with developmental delays or disabilities to engage in healthy activities in their community. The activities are designed to support their improved development in the areas of physical, social, emotional and communication skills.
“Because of our commitment to supporting the children as well as their families through these programs, we are now partnering with BCBSNM whose HKHF vision is to help improve the health of youth in local communities,” said April Spaulding, executive director of Abrazos Family Support Services. “We work with the entire family to improve the child’s overall health and well-being.”
“We’re proud to support the important work that Abrazos does to assist children with disabilities and their families with a HKHF grant,” said Janice Torrez, divisional vice president of external affairs
and chief of staff for BCBSNM. “Through its work, children of Abrazos will improve their health and development and families will learn ways to further support their child’s well-being.”
Healthy Kids, Healthy Families is a signature program of Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. The initiative focuses on engaging children and their families in understanding the importance of nutritious food, raising the level of physical activity, improving immunizations rates, better managing chronic conditions and promoting safe environments.
CU raises funds through bowling
Del Norte Credit Union, a northern New Mexico’s financial cooperative, is proud to announce a contribution of $4,510 to Bowl for Kids’ Sake, benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region. All but $500 of the sum was raised by employees — from themselves, credit union members and friends. In addition, over 50 credit union staff members bowled at the event on April 22nd at Pojoaque’s Cities of Gold Lanes.
“I am proud that our employees are so committed to raising funds for this important cause,” says DNCU CEO/President Chuck Valenti. “We are all gratified to be able to participate in contributing to kids’ programs, which is in alignment with our mission to improve lives in northern New Mexico.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters uses donations from Bowl for Kids’ Sake to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety; and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships.
