KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Just a couple weeks ago, Jeremy Maclin was exchanging vows at his wedding attended by some of his closest friends, many of them his teammates with the Kansas City Chiefs. They became his ex-teammates Friday. The Chiefs released the veteran wide receiver in a stunning move midway through their voluntary workouts, bringing an abrupt ending to the tenure of what was arguably general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid’s biggest free-agent acquisition.

“I’d like to thank Jeremy for his effort and dedication the past two seasons,” Dorsey said in a statement. “I have great respect for all players, which makes decisions like these very difficult, but we felt it was in the best interest of our club moving forward to part ways at this time.”

The Chiefs have been struggling with the salary cap for few years, and they had just $3.5 million available before the move. By releasing Maclin after June 1, they saved about $10 million that they can use to sign their three remaining draft picks and any additional free agents.

Maclin was due a salary of $9.75 million this year. His cap hit was $12.4 million.

SEAHAWKS: Seattle coach Pete Carroll says he believes Colin Kaepernick can still be a starting quarterback in the NFL. It just won’t be in Seattle, for now.

Seattle had Kaepernick in for a meeting last week as it continued to examine options at QB behind Russell Wilson.

While Seattle has seemed the most logical destination — from its style of offense to the outspokenness of its locker room — Kaepernick won’t be signing with the Seahawks at this time.

“He’s a starter in this league,” Carroll said. “We have a starter, but he is a starter in this league and I can’t imagine somebody won’t give him a chance to play.”

Carroll wouldn’t speculate on the reasons why Kaepernick remains unsigned after opting out of his contract in San Francisco and becoming a free agent.

BRONCOS: Denver backup safety Will Parks could face a suspension from the NFL following a domestic violence arrest earlier this offseason.

Parks is scheduled to appear in Adams County court on June 30. He faces misdemeanor harassment and non-physical domestic violence charges involving a former girlfriend.

KUSA-TV in Denver reports that Parks’ ex-girlfriend said she went to his home in Englewood to pick up her belongings following the breakup of their yearlong relationship. She said Parks, 22, accused her of taking some of his personal belongings and made threatening phone calls to her. Parks denied he threatened the woman.

RAVENS: Baltimore tight end Dennis Pitta has reinjured the same hip that has been surgically repaired twice.

The injury occurred during an offseason practice session Friday. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said Pitta is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury. BENGALS: Second-round draft pick Joe Mixon has signed. The Oklahoma running back who was suspended for his freshman season after he punched a woman, signed Friday. RAY RICE: Ray Rice has a job in football after all. The ex-Ravens running back is now a volunteer assistant coach at New Rochelle High (N.Y.), head coach Lou DiRienzo confirmed to The Journal News. Rice, a New Rochelle native, will coach the team’s running backs and help with its defensive backs.
