LONG BEACH, Calif. — Scott Burke plunked batter Danny Sheehan with a pitch with the bases loaded in the 13th inning and San Diego State scored a 3-2 victory over UCLA in the Long Beach Regional on Saturday.

The Bruins, who won the College World Series in 2013, were eliminated with the loss and finish the season 30-27.

CJ Saylor (3-0) got the win in 4 ⅔ innings with two hits and four strikeouts.

The Aztecs (42-20), winners of the Mountain West Conference tournament last weekend at New Mexico, face the loser of Saturday night’s game between Texas and the regional’s top seed, Long Beach State.

LONG AWAITED: Holy Cross (24-28), one of three teams with a losing record to make the NCAA Tournament, will keep playing today after winning its first regional game since 1978. The Crusaders eliminated Big Ten regular-season champion Nebraska 7-4 in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday. It was their second win of the season over a team from a power five conference. They beat Southern California in March.

BREAKTHROUGH: The Summit League picked up its first tournament win since 2012 when Oral Roberts beat Oklahoma State 14-6 in an elimination game in Fayetteville, Ark. The Golden Eagles took two of three against the Big 12’s Cowboys in the regular season.

Summit teams had lost nine straight tourney games.
