Lt. Col. Charles E. Harrell, USAF, Ret, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He was born in Raleigh, NC on September 5, 1929.

Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; two children, Charles Harrell Jr. and Kathleen Perlinski and husband, Anthony; sisters, Jean Raynor of Richmond, VA, Sherlyn Harrell of Cary, NC, and Kathryn Phillips and husband, Wayne of Greenville, NC; grandchild­ren, Kaitlyn Harrell, Tatianna, Jeremy, Rachelle Perlinski; and many other family and friends. Mr. Harrell graduated from NC State University. He served six years in the Navy Reserve and 21 years in the Air Force as a pilot, mostly flying tankers and Air Evac Aircraft. Affectiona­tely known as "Charlie Brown" by his Air Force Buddies, he was an outstandin­g fast-pitch softball pitcher throughout his college and military years. He loved to play golf with his son and friends, Chuck Aldrich, Bill Breidenbac­h and Les Baker. Most years he was able to go fishing in Atlantic Beach, NC and spend lots of fun times with his family. Mr. Harrell was also a well-respected local Businessma­n and Silversmit­h.
