Browns cut DB before scheduled first pitch

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are interested in adding a more experienced player to their quarterback room behind Dak Prescott and Kellen Moore, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

So they worked out former New York Giants backup Ryan Nassib along with three other players earlier in the week, including safeties Jeron Johnson and Duke Williams and receiver Lance Lenoir.

Cooper Rush and Zac Dysert are quarterbacks on the roster behind Prescott and Moore.

Rush is an undrafted rookie free agent and Dysert was recently claimed off waivers after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals.

The search for another quarterback is not about any unhappiness with Moore. They still don’t know what they have in Dysert and wanted to take a look at Nassib.

BROWNS: Tyvis Powell dreamed of playing for his hometown Cleveland Browns and thought it would happen this fall.

But the Browns waived the Bedford, Ohio, native and Ohio State product on Friday — just hours, according to Cleveland.com, before he was scheduled to throw out the first pitch at a Chicago White Sox-Cleveland Indians game at Progressive Field.

Powell worked as a backup free safety throughout organized team activities, which wrapped up this week.

“When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal, you do not change your decision to get there,” Powell wrote on Twitter.

Powell, 23, joined the Browns on Feb. 6 when they claimed him off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

GIANTS: New York wrapped up organized team activities the way they started — with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive end Olivier Vernon missing the voluntary workouts.

Coach Ben McAdoo declined Friday to discuss attendance. He has not talked about it since the first media availability, when he said he would coach those there.

McAdoo said he expects everyone to attend mandatory three-day minicamp, which starts Tuesday.

FALCONS: With construction of the team’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium moving closer to completion, the implosion of the Georgia Dome has been set for Nov. 20.

The Falcons had put a hold on decommissioning the Georgia Dome until there were no doubts the new facility would be ready for the 2017 season. The first event in the new facility, which also will be home to MLS Atlanta United, will be a Falcons preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 26.
