‘Town hall’ comedy

Current events influence Stephanie Miller’s show

- BY ADRIAN GOMEZ JOURNAL ARTS EDITOR

Stephanie Miller always gives her opinion.

And rightfully so.

The political commentator is host of “The Stephanie Miller Show,” a liberal talk radio program that is syndicated nationally.

Miller is taking a piece of her radio program on the road with “Stephanie Miller’s Sexy Liberal Resistance Tour,” which makes a stop in the Duke City on Saturday, June 17, at the KiMo Theatre.

Miller travels with comedians John Fugelsang and Frangela as part of the tour.

Miller’s show reaches more than 3 million listeners weekly. She is also ranked No. 12 on the influential industry publication Talkers Magazine’s “Heavy Hundred” list.

Fugelsang hosts ‘Tell Me Everything” weekdays on SiriusXM Insight and “Page Six TV” for the Fox network, premiering in 2017.

He’s been a regular on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News and has performed for U.S. troops. His new film, “Dream On,” a road trip in search of the American dream, was named Best Documentary at the New York Independent Film Festival and recently premiered on PBS.

Frangela — made up of Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton — are real-life best friends who have been featured contributors on VH1’s “Best Week Ever” NBC’s “Today” show, “Dateline,” “Showbiz Tonight,” “Access Hollywood” and CNN’s “Headline News.

“This isn’t like a normal comedy tour,” Miller says in a recent phone interview. “This is a real event. It’s part town hall, part comedy show. It’s different, and it changes with each show. You’ve seen what one 24-hour news cycle can uncover.” Miller will be taking on hot political topics. “The material practically writes itself,” she says. “There’s a reason ‘SNL’ and all of the comedy shows are doing well. Between the tweets that President Trump sends out and every move he makes, it’s all perfect for this show. We’re leading the resistance with this show. We’ve been selling out everywhere we’ve been. The great part about the tour is that we’re doing one show per month. One thing is guaranteed with the show: It will be very current.”
