A man who robbed a mother and her children at gunpoint in a West Side Smith’s parking lot, Lloyd Aguilar, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison followed by eight years of supervised probation.

Aguilar was convicted by a Bernalillo County jury on March 17 on all charges, among them one count of armed robbery and three counts of intentional child abuse.

Mark Probasco from the state Attorney General’s Office and Natalie Strub from the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.

Aguilar’s sentencing was announced today by Attorney General Hector Balderas and 2nd Judicial District Attorney Raúl Torrez.

“I am committed to marshaling the resources necessary to make Bernalillo County safe by working with our local, state and federal partners,” said Torrez in a news release.

“This case is an example of prosecuting agencies working together to make our community safer by removing the most violent and repeat offenders from the streets of Bernalillo County,” he said.
