Insults have no place in discourse

RE: MICHAELE Millington letter, June 17

Normally, I wouldn’t reply to hate and ignorance; however, in this case, I feel dishonored when Millington insinuated me being on the level of scum. I didn’t fight in two conflicts in different parts of the world, take over 30 pieces of shrapnel and bullets for someone who has such hate of this country and myself to put me and those that fight for this country on the level of scum.

I personally am happy for every American that took the time to vote for their choice! That is our system. After that, we collectively come together as Americans behind whomever is our elected president. If (she hates) our choice so much that (she has) to lower (herself) to negative personal comments and (she feels) so strongly, then (she) should leave this country and find someplace where (she) you can live and not hate. I find hate to be all consuming. When I lay in the American Embassy in Beirut stunned with dead comrades around me — women with over 30 years of service to this country, young mothers, elderly statesmen — all who have given their lives for service to all of us, I never thought that we would be subjected to be considered the level of scum or comments about our president such as we have seen from Michaele Millington and others who think they can hate just because they have “freedom of speech.” Go someplace else with your hate.
