Headley, Lynn Moore
Lynn Moore Headley, age 72, of Albuquerque, NM died June 18, 2017 in Houston, TX. Her husband and two children were with her.
She was being treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and passed away from complications of her disease.
Lynn was born on March 6, 1945, in Roanoke, VA and grew up in Blacksburg, VA. She attended Blacksburg High School where she was a cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, and Spring Festival Queen. She attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI, now Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg and graduated in 1967 with a BS Degree in Human Nutrition and Foods. While at VPI, she was a cheerleader and was crowned Miss VPI in 1966. Also at VPI, she met her future husband Thomas Headley of Florence, AL, and they were married in Blacksburg on July 29, 1967. They were blessed to share 50 years of loving marriage. They spent their first three years together in Atlanta, GA, where Lynn completed an Internship at Emory University and then worked as a Dietitian at Emory’s Egleston Hospital for Children. They moved to Gainesville, FL in 1970 where Lynn was a Dietitian at P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School at the Univ. of Florida and later had her two children. They moved to Albuquerque in 1974, which has been their home ever since. In Albuquerque, Lynn worked part-time as an office receptionist at several orthodontic practices, providing her the time she wanted to raise her children.
Lynn accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior on Dec. 16, 1956, at Blacksburg Christian Church, and was a lifelong faithful servant of the Lord. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church in Albuquerque for 42 years where she served as Sunday School teacher, youth sponsor, committee member and leader, choir member and in many other roles.
Lynn enjoyed reading and was a member of several book clubs, participated in many Bible studies, and belonged to a bridge club. She enjoyed playing golf with her friends, walking for exercise, completing the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzle, and playing word games with her family and friends on her iPad. In recent years, she loved helping elementary school children with their reading skills. She was a gracious hostess, an amazing cook, and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing for her family, gardening, birding, and traveling, especially to beach vacations with her family.
She was a faithful and devoted wife, loving mother, fun grandmother, special sister, and loyal friend to all. She will be remembered as a lady of class with an infectious laugh and a radiant smile that lit up the room. Everyone loved and admired Lynn.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Thomas Headley; daughter, Jennifer Kelly and grandsons, Matthew and Jonah Kelly of Edmond, OK; son, Benjamin Headley and wife, Kristi, grandson, J.T. Headley and granddaughter, Madison Headley, all of Albuquerque; brother, Thomas Moore of Salem, VA; and sister, Emily Moore of Corrales, NM, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Vincent and Myrtle Moore of Blacksburg, VA; and her sister, Nancy Moore Chapman of Front Royal, VA.
The family greatly appreciates the many friends who held Lynn up in prayer before she passed away.
A Celebration of Life for Lynn will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, 10101 Montgomery Blvd. NE, in Albuquerque with a reception to follow.
