In Loving Memory of Corine Mata

Corine Mata, age 91, was called home to be with Our Lord on June 18, 2017 with her family by her side, Corine was born in Roswell, NM on July 20, 1925 and is preceded in death by her husband Joe C. Mata and son, Orlando Mata. She is survived by daughter Lynette Henry and son Joseph Mata; granddaugh­ters Ericka DeCourcey (Mike) and Amanda Holzer (Dan) one great granddaugh­ter Taylor DeCourcey; and six great grandsons: Deklan and Christian DeCourcey, and Dylan, Daniel, Hayden, and Hunter Holzer. Corine is also survived by her sister Carmen Madrid and several nieces and nephews.

In 1945, Corine went to work in San Francisco at the ship yards during WWII and was known as one of many Rosie the Riveter’s. Later, Corine’s career was in the grocery business. For many years, she and her husband owned Mata’s Grocery and later went on to work for various grocery stores in the community. Corine retired in the late 70’s, but continued to volunteer her time for various organizati­ons as well as take care of her beloved granddaugh­ter’s.

Corine was a member of Women’s Auxiliary American Legion Units 13 and 401 and served as a Deputy Representa­tive for Auxiliary Post 13. Corine was also a volunteer for the VA Hospital for several years.

When Corine wasn’t volunteeri­ng her time she was busy working on her Arts and Crafts. She would participat­e in various arts and crafts shows, which she enjoyed.

Corine was a hard working business woman and a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r. Corine will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She will be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 am.
