King, Ann Marie (Penn)

-

Ann Marie (Penn) King loved people and animals. Her smile could light up a room and her laughter was abundant. She raised six kids and stepkids, teaching us all to do our best, clean up our messes, treat other people fairly, and always be ourselves. Her home was a warm, inviting place where friends and family enjoyed good food, conversation, and fun while celebrating birthdays and holidays. Over the years, her family included many beloved dogs and cats.

Ann loved the arts. She played the piano by ear and sang beautifully throughout her life. Growing up in Oklahoma and living most of her life in New Mexico, she had a profound respect and lifelong passion for Native American arts and cultures. She was most proud of working in museums in Tulsa and Santa Fe and of completing her degree at UNM in 1992.

Ann loved life. She loved the thrill of friendly competition, whether in Scrabble or golf, a sport she enjoyed immensely. Her home was filled with books reflecting her fascination with diverse people and cultures. She held strong opinions about politics and expressed them passionately.

Ann was loved. Her husband, children and grandchildren, brother, nephews and niece, as well as many dear friends, miss her terribly and will always be grateful for her presence in our lives.

Ann’s vibrant soul was freed from her body on June 12, 2017. A memorial service will be held July 10 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Michael and All Angels church, 601 Montano NW, Albuquerque, followed by a simple reception. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged in Ann’s honor for the Wheelwright Museum

(wheelwright.org) and Animal Humane NM (animalhumanenm.org).
