SPORTS SPEAK UP!

- sportsspeakup@abqjournal.com

ON FRIDAY I caught the tail end of a local sports talk radio show where the Sports Speak Up! column and their contributors were being disrespected. One caller said the column was a ‘disaster’ and another stated it was ‘Twitter for baby boomers.’ Actually, if one wants comprehensive coverage about UNM athletics and local sports, along with reader commentary, they won’t be caught without their daily Albuquerque Journal. And to the young callers … please keep working so my checks continue coming the 3rd Wednesday of each month. — Social Security Boomer

The truth and irony is that Sports Speak Up! is modeled after sports talk radio. — Randy, Journal

THE LA TIMES says LaVar Ball needs to change now that his oldest in the NBA. The media made Mr. Ball and our President. Put the blame where it belongs. The media show buffoons for ratings and are shocked at the results. Imagine this sports page in a few weeks when OJ is released! — Larry the VOL

DAMN. I was really hoping Magic Johnson did NOT draft Lonzo Ball with the No. 2 pick of the NBA draft because I got real sick of dad Lavar’s delusions this past season. With the Lakers getting lots media coverage in ABQ, dad will be forced down our throats whenever he has an issue with son’s playing time or whenever dad isn’t consulted about the halftime entertainment at Laker home games. Maybe that explains why Coach Alford has been really quiet about his oneand-done former star since the college basketball season ended . ... — George Scott

THE AGGIES were the true winners of the New Mexico bowl last season 32-31 and were also the 2nd best football team in New Mexico behind ENMU. … The Aggies should have rings given to them and they should be more expensive and bigger than the Lobos’ rings since they were better than the Lobos in 2016. — Mo not the attorney

SO, THE TRAITOR (Paul Weir) “wants the entire state to be focused on the Pit on the opening weekend.” Does that include everyone in Las Cruces, not to mention the numerous Aggie alumni and fans statewide that he screwed over? — Disgusted Aggie
