Albuquerque is a healthy and outdoorsy place to live. It’s also happy and zen.

This is according to Women’s Health magazine’s latest listing on “The Wellthiest Cities in America.”

According to the magazine, the list celebrates locations teeming with gyms and doctors and parks.

But the magazine wanted to celebrate the “wellthy” zip codes, meaning it tracked cities that have all of the above but also have a high quality of life — restaurants with farm-fresh food, landscapes that energize and calm and opportunities to stay social.

In the article, it says Albuquerque marries a small-town vibe with larger-than-life desert scenery.

“With 310 days of sun a year, locals strive for outdoor adventures,” said author Kristen Dold and Jayme Moye.

The writers also list the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, ABQ BioPark, kayaking in the Rio Grande and bouldering at U-Mound in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains.

Women’s Health then partnered with the local Yelp experts to help crunch the numbers.

“To arrive at your list, Yelp’s data scientists parsed how many healthy-lifestyle businesses and amenities U.S. cities offered in relation to population size,” the article stated.

Then how often people used or searched for those businesses was factored into the ranking.

Howie Kaibel, community director and marketing director for Yelp Albuquerque, said Women’s Health contacted him directly asking to connect them with some local Yelpers who enjoyed activities and healthy lifestyles in Albuquerque.

“Albuquerque is so close to incredible monuments and natural wonders, from the Carlsbad Caverns to the White Sands National Monument and Taos Ski Resort, it’s no wonder that active people thrive in the 505,” he said. “The farm-to-table and locally sourced culinary movement is booming and there are plenty of local natural wonders, like the (ABQ) BioPark, to keep us focussed on staying ‘wellthy.’ ”

This is the second time Women’s Health and Yelp have partnered on a feature. In 2014, Yelp and Women’s Health worked together on a feature called “Social Cities.”
