Kluber ties Feller record as Indians beat Rangers

CLEVELAND — Corey Kluber is moving into select company when it comes to striking out batters.

Kluber allowed three hits and struck out 12 in eight innings to help the Cleveland Indians beat the Texas Rangers 5-1 on Thursday.

Kluber (7-2) tied a franchise record held by Hall of Famer Bob Feller with four straight games with double-digit strikeouts. Feller struck out 10 or more batters in his last three starts in 1938 and his first start in 1939.

“It’s cool to do those kinds of things,” Kluber said. “You take a moment to appreciate it and move on. It’s probably something you appreciate more down the road.”

Pinch-hitter Lonnie Chisenhall had a two-run double in Cleveland’s three-run sixth inning. Francisco Lindor and Edwin Encarnacio­n also had RBIs for the Indians, who won six of seven over the Rangers this season.

Andrew Cashner (3-7) was struck on the right elbow by a broken bat in the sixth inning and was removed a batter later. The Rangers said he suffered a bruise and X-rays were negative. RED SOX 6, TWINS 3: In Boston, David Price (3-2) won for the second time in three starts, and Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez hit solo home runs as Boston rallied from a three-run deficit to beat Minnesota.

Tzu-Wei Lin singled and tripled for his first big league multihit game. Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits and an RBI.

BREWERS 11, REDS 3: In Cincinnati, Ryan Braun started Milwaukee’s six-homer barrage, hitting the first of three off Homer Bailey, as the Brewers beat Cincinnati to salvaged the finale of their three-game series.

The NL Central leaders hit six homers for the first time since 2007, when they also did it in Cincinnati. Jonathan Villar connected

twice as Milwaukee matched its season high for runs.

DODGERS 6, ANGELS 2: In Anaheim, Calif., the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw won his 12th game, a MLB high, by holding the host Angels to three hits and one run in seven innings.

The Dodgers broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with solo homers by Yasiel Puig and Chase Utley. Joc Pederson hit a three-run homer in the fifth for LA.

ASTROS 6, ATHLETICS 1: In Houston, Carlos Correa homered twice and drove in four runs as the Astros got a win over Oakland.

Correa’s two-run shot in the fourth put the Astros up 2-1. He extended the lead to 5-1 with a two-run homer to straightaw­ay center field with no outs in the sixth inning to chase rookie Daniel Gossett (1-3).

TIGERS 7, ROYALS 3: In Detroit, Michael Fulmer came within one out of a shutout, and the Tigers hit three home runs in a victory over Kansas City.

Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler and Andrew Romine went deep for the Tigers. Fulmer (7-6) appeared headed for his second big league shutout, but Ramon Torres and Jorge Bonifacio singled with two out in the ninth, then Lorenzo Cain drove them in with a double. Upton dropped Eric Hosmer’s soft liner to left field for an error, allowing another run to come in.

CUBS 5, NATIONALS 4: In Washington, Jon Jay hit a go-ahead two-run double in a three-run ninth-inning rally against Blake Treinen, lifting the Cubs over the Nationals.

Tommy La Stella drove in a run with a two-out single and Jay followed with a hit to right-center that brought home two runs.

CARDINALS 10, DIAMONDBAC­KS 4: In Phoenix, Randal Grichuk hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh and drove in five runs, leading St. Louis over Arizona.

PIRATES 4, RAYS 0: In Pittsburgh, Jameson Taillon (4-2) scattered seven hits over 6⅓ innings, and Gregory Polanco and John Jaso hit homers as Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay.

ORIOLES 2, BLUE JAYS 0: In Toronto, Ubaldo Jimenez pitched two-hit ball over eight innings, and Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an RBI as Baltimore beat Toronto.

METS 6, MARLINS 3: In Miami, Jay Bruce had a pair of RBI hits and scored twice as New York took the rubber game of its series against Miami to finish a 5-5 road trip.

PADRES 6, BRAVES 0: In San Diego, Padres rookie Dinelson Lamet allowed four hits over seven innings, and Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe hit two-run homers as San Diego beat Atlanta.
