Joe Hartman (Alvin Joel Hartman) passed from this life on

June 22, 2017 in Arizona, at the age of 76. Joe was born in Ft. Stockton, TX to Sterling and Mary Olive Hartman. He graduated from Gallup High School in

1958 where he lettered in basketball, football, baseball and choir. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in accounting.

Joe married his sweetheart, Hazel "Punkie" Washburn in the St. George LDS temple in 1958. Joe and Hazel would enjoy a strong and loving partnershi­p, exemplifyi­ng devotion to each other & service to others for the next 58 years.

Joe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving faithfully in various leadership positions. He especially loved working with the youth of the church and scout programs. Joe and Hazel lived in Albuquerqu­e for more than 50 years. Their home was generously open to all who needed it, including missionari­es, refugees, and those needing medical care.

Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother & friend. His greatest joy in life was instilling his family with a love of the Gospel and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Joe is survived by his wife Hazel, brother Larnce, sister Darla & 5 children: Valorie (Danny), Michelle (Chris), Brent (Jennifer), Andrew (Tiffany), and Jenny (Collin). Joe and Hazel are the proud grandparen­ts of 10 grandchild­ren. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin & Ken & sister Barbara.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 with a viewing at 4:00 pm and the funeral service at 5:00pm. Chapel address is 422 E. University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85201. Due to the heat, no graveside services will be held.
