Kershaw wins 13th as LA edges Arizona

LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw held Arizona to two hits in seven innings and then Los Angeles held on in a shaky ninth inning to beat the Diamondbac­ks 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Kershaw (13-2), who struck out 11, had a no-hitter through 6⅓ innings.

Arizona made it close in the ninth when Daniel Descalso hit a two-out three-run homer off LA closer Kenley Jansen.

BLUE JAYS 4, YANKEES 1: In New York, CC Sabathia was chased during a fourrun third in his return from the disabled list, with Kendrys Morales hitting a tworun single to help Toronto beat New York and stop a five-game losing streak.

The Yankees’ Aaron Judge hit his MLBleading 28th home run, a drive that would have traveled 456 feet had it landed unimpeded, according to MLB’s Statcast.

PADRES 1, INDIANS 0: In Cleveland, Cory Spangenber­g drove in the only run with a ground-out and six San Diego pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Padres beat Cleveland.

REDS 8, ROCKIES 1: In Denver, Homer Bailey went six solid innings for his first win since Aug. 12 and Billy Hamilton had a two-out, two-run single as Cincinnati beat Colorado.

Jose Peraza, Scott Schebler and Scooter Gennett added homers for the Reds.

ASTROS 16, BRAVES 4: In Atlanta, Jose Altuve homered and drove in four runs, and Josh Reddick hit a grand slam as Houston pounded Atlanta.

The Astros banged out 19 hits to tie a season high. Albuquerqu­e Academy alum Alex Bregman went 3-for-4.

TWINS 5, ANGELS 4: In Minneapoli­s, Kyle Gibson pitched into the seventh to snap his three-game winless streak and Byron Buxton hit his fifth homer as Minnesota beat Los Angeles.

ATHLETICS 7, WHITE SOX 6: In Oakland, Calif., Franklin Barreto homered in the ninth inning, Yonder Alonso went deep twice and the Athletics snapped a season-high six-game losing streak.

RED SOX 11, RANGERS 4: In Arlington, Texas, Andrew Benintendi went 5-for-5 with two homers and six RBIs, and David Price (4-2) struck out nine over six scoreless innings as Boston stretched its winning streak to six games.

NATIONALS 11, METS 4: In Washington, Daniel Murphy drove in five runs on four hits, and Bryce Harper had three hits and two RBIs for Washington. Murphy improved his career average to .405 against New York.

RAYS 6, CUBS 5: In Chicago, Tim Beckham homered as Tampa Bay won in its reunion with manager Joe Maddon.

Beckham’s two-run drive highlighte­d a five-run fourth against Jon Lester (5-5) as the Rays won their first meeting against Maddon since he left to manage Chicago following the 2014 season.

PIRATES 3, PHILLIES 0: In Philadelph­ia, Jameson Taillon struck out a careerbest nine in five innings, amd Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of solo homers as Pittsburgh beat the Phillies.

MARLINS 5, CARDINALS 2: In St. Louis, Christian Yelich hit a three-run homer and Jose Urena struck out seven in five solid innings as Miami beat St. Louis.

TIGERS 5, GIANTS 3: In Detroit, Victor Martinez homered, Michael Fulmer pitched eight innings as Detroit snapped San Francisco’s six-game win streak.

ROYALS 7, MARINERS 3: In Seattle, Whit Merrifield hit the first pitch of the game from Felix Hernandez for his seventh homer and Mike Moustakas added his 24th as Kansas City beat Seattle.

BREWERS 6, ORIOLES 2: In Milwaukee, Eric Thames hit two homers and Jimmy Nelson pitched seven innings to lead the Brewers.
